Sony A9 II Body Only – Professional Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

The Sony A9 II Body Only is a high-performance full-frame mirrorless camera designed for photographers who need exceptional speed, accurate autofocus, and dependable performance in demanding shooting environments. Built around a 24.2-megapixel stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with integral memory, the Alpha 9 II delivers the responsiveness required for sports, wildlife, action, events, photojournalism, and professional everyday photography.

As a body-only camera, this package gives photographers the freedom to choose the Sony E-mount lens that best matches their creative style. Whether you need a fast telephoto lens for wildlife, a wide-angle lens for events, or a versatile zoom for professional assignments, the A9 II provides a flexible foundation for building a capable Sony camera system.

Fast 24.2MP Full-Frame Performance

At the heart of the Sony A9 II is a 35mm full-frame 24.2-megapixel Exmor RS CMOS sensor. Its stacked design with integral memory enables exceptionally fast data readout, helping the camera respond quickly when photographing unpredictable subjects. Sony pairs the sensor with its BIONZ X image-processing engine for detailed images, smooth tonal gradations, and reliable image processing.

The camera also supports 14-bit RAW recording, giving photographers substantial flexibility when editing exposure, colour, highlights, and shadows during post-production.

Capture Fast Action at Up to 20fps

For sports and wildlife photographers, timing can make all the difference. The Sony Alpha A9 II can shoot continuously at up to 20 frames per second with its electronic shutter, while the mechanical shutter supports continuous shooting of up to 10fps. This makes it easier to record important moments in fast-moving scenes, from athletes crossing a finish line to birds taking flight.

The electronic shutter also enables blackout-free continuous shooting, allowing you to maintain a clear view of your subject while working through a rapid sequence. This is particularly useful when tracking subjects whose movement is difficult to predict.

Advanced 4D Focus and Real-Time Tracking

693-Point Phase-Detection Autofocus

The A9 II features a sophisticated Fast Hybrid AF system with 693 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points. The phase-detection points cover approximately 93% of the image area, providing extensive coverage for tracking subjects across the frame.

The camera can continuously calculate autofocus and exposure at up to 60 times per second, helping maintain focus and exposure as subjects move through the frame.

Real-Time Eye AF and Tracking

Sony's Real-time Tracking technology uses information from the image sensor to identify and follow moving subjects. Real-time Eye AF can detect human and animal eyes, making the A9 II especially useful for portrait, wildlife, sports, and event photography.

5-Axis Image Stabilisation

The Sony A9 II incorporates a sensor-shift 5-axis image stabilisation system with a compensation rating of up to 5.5 stops under Sony's specified testing conditions. This can help reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting handheld, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.

For photographers working at events, indoors, or during evening shoots, this added stability can be valuable when a tripod is impractical.

Professional Connectivity and Reliable Operation

The A9 II is designed with professional workflows in mind. It includes a 1000BASE-T wired LAN terminal and 5GHz Wi-Fi support, allowing photographers to transfer images efficiently and integrate the camera into demanding professional environments.

Its combination of high-speed performance, responsive autofocus, fast continuous shooting, and connectivity makes the camera suitable for photographers who need to move quickly from capture to delivery.

Why Choose the Sony A9 II Body Only?

The Sony A9 II Body Only is an excellent choice for photographers who prioritise speed and autofocus performance without compromising full-frame image quality. Its body-only configuration is particularly convenient for existing Sony users who already own compatible E-mount lenses or professionals who want to select specific lenses for their assignments.

From fast-paced sports and wildlife to weddings, news photography, portraits, and demanding commercial work, the A9 II is built to respond quickly when the decisive moment arrives.
